Welcome to the official off-topic moma* cafe Olympic discussion thread. As you may or may not know, Procyin is a hardcore Olympic enthusiast, and promotes pride, and recommends everyone have pride in their country (yes, even Americans) and support the human spirit of competition.

Will you be watching?

I've been watching the entire opening ceremonies so far.
Does it make you happy you're so strange?

I always like watching the summer olympics more than the winter because the US hardly wins in winter. GO USA

Good call on the Olympic thread, sir. I am also a big fan. I was going to start one myself. I hope we can have good discussions.

The whole damn thing is so crooked that I resolve not to watch it every time it comes around. I usually end up watching anyway - and come away thinking its even more crooked than last time.

(anyone remember the russian/canadian skater thing?)

So athletes from 202 countries around the world putting aside their differences and gathering for two weeks of friendly competition is crooked?

I think it's inspiring. It's an example the world NEEDS right now.

Don't let a few bad apples ruin the whole event for you.
Does it make you happy you're so strange?

I hope America defeats everyone else, because I'm an American.

The only thing that pisses me off is they show the Taekwondo competetions around 4 in the morning here. Nothing that a VCR can't fix, but then they cut and edit and only show some fights, etc etc.

Complete nonsense.
That being put aside, I love watching the Olympics. Though I always find the Winter Olympics hold my attention better.

Holy geez! What did the Olympics ever do to you? I bet when you were a kid the Olympics beat you up and stole your lunch money.

QUOTE

The have drug screenings. I don't think many people get away with it. The few that have in the past were unfortunate and I hate that it happens sometimes.

I'm sure this only happens when hicks watch the Olympics. Any real competitor would never think like this. The Olympics are about pushing the human body to it's limits and it's amazing what people can accomplish. Like for a runner, it's not you vs. the other guys on the track. It's you vs. the clock.

How much hacking can you do to a Tivo? Any sort of media-center options for them? I read that they are coming out with new $99 units, and I never knew it was so cheap a month to have Tivo.

Anyhow, back on topic... any cuties on Team Japan? *heh* I missed the opening ceremonies. And it is sad that with as much coverage as there is out there, certain events that they think Americans aren't interested in get crappy coverage. That, or we don't get to see a lot of the non-American parts of certain events.

I saw a few weeks ago that Japan's synchronized swimming team was ranked 2nd in the world. I've never seen them perform though.
